PICTURES. “THE STEADFAST HEART” FRIDAY. A magnificent picture drama will he screened on Friday evening at McLean's Pictures. Here is staged the story of a mountain hoy branded as a criminal. Jerry Devine plays Angus Burke in “The Steadfast Heart” and first attracted attention for his remarkable performance as the black sheep in that famous picture “Over the Hill.” Angus Burke, as a hoy of ten, is fin - ing life under a terrible handicap. Ilis father is a thief, his mother a wretched invalid .and lie is on trial for the death of the slim ill' of the county whom lie had killed blindly without knowing, to protect his worthless mother. In all the little town of Rainbow, Virginia. Angus has three friends—the minister, the minister’s daughter and Dave Wilkins, the local editin'. The rest of the people of Rainbow demand that be pay the penalty for the death of the sheriff. Soon after, Dave Wilkins sends Aligns away to school for the purpose of getting him out of town where lie is branded as a social outcast. He advises him never to return. Eight years hirer, however. Dave becomes seriously ill, and Lydia, now grown to young womanhood, sends a message to Angus to burry back and save the property of his benefactor from the plottings of Mai Crane—the same villain who had tried to convict Angus of the sheriff's slay ing. On his return, lie is attacked by Crane’s hirelings, anil another light is staged in the printer's slion in which Angus is victorious. .Mai Crane’s son is in love with Lydia and she feels that, she must many him on account of social standing, though she really loves Angus. Angus now decides to stay m Rainbow and manages to get a job in the. local bank. The older Crane is mixed up in a. crooked oil deal and is on the verge of leaving town with Ibrmoney which the people have invested, when Angus discovers what lie is up to and follows Crane. Crane realizes that lie is being followed. The two ears race and Crane goes to his death over a (Till'. A two-reel Comedy, Gazette and Serial will .support this great; star.
