WATAROA NOTES.

(From a Correspondent)

The AVataroa-AVaitnngi Racing Club held their annual race meeting on tlie 27th. anil were fortunate in getting a fine day as their fixture to race on the 26th., the previous day had to he postponed owing to the very boisterous weather. Quite a large gathering of settlers and holiday makers from the northern towns were present. The results of the meeting were as follows : Trial Handicap, 0 furlongs—South Inch 1, lan Hamilton 2. Haiihari Trot, 1J miles—Blue AA'illaws 1, Matainui 2, AVaystar 3. AA'ataroa Handicap, If miles—Rapid Rose 1, North Inch 2. Sandy .McDonald 3. AVaitangi Handicap G.J furlongs—Elniorz, Cashman, a dead heat. Stewards Handicap—North Inch 1. Rapid Rose 2. Farewell Handicap Cash Box 1, Elmorz 2. After the AVataroa Handicap Air AVm. Joyce on behalf of the Club produced a very fine riding wlijjj which Mr T. K, A'. Seddon had donated to the Club, for the winner of that race, Air G. A. Campbell, R.angiora, being the lucky jockey, and the winning horse was Rapid Rose owned by Air John Adamson, of llarihari, Airs Seddon presented the whip to Air Campbell. Air Toni Seddon in a few well chosen remarks commended the owner and rider on their line win that day. The race meeting was run oil' in good time and the Committee were very fortunate in having Air E. McGregor of Hokitika as there stipendiary steward as he w::« most courteous and supplied first hand information which the Club very much appreciated Air and Airs Jones had (barge of the tea rooms and credit was due to their fine supply of hot tea and refreshments. A dance was held in the AVataronAVaitangi Hall in the evening at which Air Jack Nisson had charge of the lloor. This was the largest gathering seen at a dance for some time and dancing was indulged in till an early hour in the morning,
