RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION
HOKITIKA BRANCH. The Committee of the above met at the Soldiers’ Hall lasi evening at 7.J0 o'clock. Present: Messrs' Evans (l* resident). I Jain, Paterson, Xhand, Stuart, .Moore. Apologies were made for .Messrs Tomlinson and Lynch. The Chairman made a. report in regard to the building schemes for the first section of the social rooms in front of the Hall. Mr A. Wilson estimated the cost at £&>(), and it was agreed to go on with the work as funds were, available, so as to have the rooms ready for occupation for the winter months. The acceptance of .Malfroy and Coy’s offer to supply the timber rot(uircd was approved, and it was decided to arrange for early delivery. The Secretary was instructed to make building arrangements. The (jiiestion of raising further funds was mentioned, and it was resolved to make next Saturday night’s dance the first effort. A meeting of Judies will bo convened for next Wednesday al'termam to take steps to set up a committee to co-operate in the general task of raising about £2OO immediately required for the work in sight. It is proposed to hold a monster euchre tournament on Thursday, Ma.rcli 12 for which it. dinner set will he offered as the principal prize to the highest scorer, with other valuable prizes for ladies and gentlemen, as also a lucky table prize. The price of admission to this special effort was fixed at 2s. Tickets of admission will he on sale shortly.
The ladies will he raked to arrange other features, and a special effort will he made over the Easter holidays. U is hoped to have the rooms available for use not late;; than April. Tim meeting confirmed the arrangements made for holding Poppy Hay in April. The matter of music for the socials, etc., during the coining season was left in the hands of the Sei rotary to arrange.
If was stated that with the rooms available (three in number) the club side of the local Branch would become more prominent, find the opportunity would he afforded for the men to meet together more frequently and the hum! of comradeship be maintained for mutual benefit. It is probable that the hon. membership of the Club will bo extended also, with a view to popularising the rooms and generally providing a suitable meeting place of an evening where a pleasant hour or two may be passed.
