Following on the refusal of the North Coast Steamship Company to grant a claim for sick pav for a fireman on their steamer Yilgihar. the entire crew gave notice of their intention to cease work. All efforts at a settlement failed and the vessel is held up. The company state the men’s action is a further attempt to job control. Fresh trouble has arisen with the Commonwealth line. The Seamen’s Union is refusing to man a chartered steamer, the Dilga. as some of the members of the old Fordsdale crew were signed on, and the Unionists refuses to work with them. MELBOURNE. Feb. 23. The maritime conference convened by tile Trades Hall Council in an endeavour to arrive at the basis of a settlement in the waterfront disputes has resumed in camera. WORK AT LYTTELTON. CHRISTCHURCH. February 24. All work was resumed on the waterfront this morning and the call for 1 labour on the Tairoa was accepted although only three gangs were avail- ( able. .Tt is stated that there is «t , shortage of labour on the waterfront i at present. ■
