HOKITIKA HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
The iollowing telegrams explain
themselves : “Sir James Parr, Minister of Education. Wellington, Meeting of Hokitika High School Board fully considered letter from the Education .Dcparinioiil suggesting abolishing Hoard and transferring of reserves and funds. Board is certain district will strongly object, and 1 was asked to point out to you and Prime Minister that although Board has not controlled a High School it has taken an active interest in the Secondary education of the District High School here and devoted its annual revenue to this purpose. The Board would urge that the proposals now suggested would l.e a serious blow to the secondary work now l.eing carried on here. In view of Mr Massey’s illness
I am not telegraphing him and I'oel sure when you realise the strong feeling that the department's proposal would arouse that you will not entertain it.— 11. Michel, M.L.C., (’hairman, Hokitika High School Board, Hokitika.- I understand the Department is being advised hv Council ol Education to abolish High School Boards which have no functions to perform. I was not aware of the department's proposal until your telegram was received.
