We cannot reasonably hope to secure an increase in the tourist traffic, ami to hold and extend that increase, if visitors to the country cannot rely on obtaining accommodation, not necessarily of the kind to which they are accustomed in otner countries, but certainly of a kind that "ill afford them comfort and pleasure. The number of hotels in New Zealand that may he said to he cf a first-class description is alieady too small even to meet the requirements of our own travellers on special occasions. It follows that it is ilLtim-tv inadequate to cope with the demand for accommodation that will he created if the efforts that are to he made to exploit our scenic resorts and to attract large ‘numbers'’ of tourists to the country ale successful. —“Otago Daily Times.”
