SHIPPING DISPUTES

Excitement was caused at the Union Steamship Coy’s offices, when thirtyfour men, members of the crew of the .Moeraki, who were discharged in accordance with the order of the Court, entered the outer office and demanded to see the Manager. Previously the men attended the Mercantile Marino office, where they should have been f nill off, hut they refused to acept the money, because ihe pay sheet showed only the amount due to them from the Ist to 11th. February, They claimed a record of all wages earned by them since they had joined the vessel should he shown on the pay sheet. After marching to the Union Steamship Company’s office, a spokesman interviewed a responsible official of the Company, and demanded the men should he paid, notwithstanding that the nu l ,n know they could not lie paid off except in the presence of a shipping master where the money was refused. The Company's solicitor arrived and argued with the men and then a body of police came on the scene and ordered the men out. They left quietly hut it is, understood they intend to renew the claim Lo-dn v.
