John Francis Madden was found guilty of receiving, with a recommendation to mercy on account of his youth. Sentence was deferred. WIFE-MURDER. CHARGE. AUCKLAND, February 12.
The Supreme Court continued the trial of James Simpkin, charged with murdering his wife by cutting her throat at Remuera on October oth. Accused’s counsel submitted the accused was insane when he killed his vtife. He suffered from loss of conciousness, known as petit mal. Accused gave evidence. He said that on the evening of the tragedy, he asked his wife if there was any other man. She said the children were not his children. After that he did not know what- happened. . ■ Lengthy evidence was called to show the accused mart's strange habits. The case was adjourned.
