DOMINION ITEMS.

[by TELEGKAPH —rEH CRESS ASSOO'ATiON.] THE APPRENTICE PROBLEM. WELLINGTON, February 12. Replying to a deputation last night regarding the Apprentices’ Act, the Alinister for Labour (AH Anderson) made an appeal to employers to give the Act a fair trial. Air Anderson stated that a great deal of time and attention had been put into the Act, which was thoroughly democratic and designed with the object of putting apprentices on a reasonable and proper footing. He was very disappointed with the employers, who had not set up committees. If anything, the Act was more in favour of the -employers than the employees. “I make another appeal to-night to the employers throughout Now Zealand to set up these committees, and endeavour to make the Ac-t workable. If it is found tho Act is not workable, then it can he amended. I believe it is workable.” ANGLICAN SYNOD. DUNEDIN, February 12. “The idea of writing the Prayer Book in modern journalese should be repugnant to all,” said Dean Fitehett at the Anglican Synod speaking on Archbishop Julius’s motion that a Bill he promoted in Parliament to enable the Synod to alter, add to, or diminish the fundamental provisions of the Constitution, so that the Church should have practically autonomy she now possesses theoretically, lie said that tho Prayer Book was now being revised in England. Their policy should be to wait till that appeared. The General Synod was not the Church, and the Church’s voice, if hoard would, say: “Hands off the Prayer Book!” Tho legal position in regard to the Constitution could he ascertained from the Supreme Court. Archdeacon Ale Murray (Auckland) took the same view, and earnestly implored the Synod to take Dean Fitchett’s advice, and let time work jin the matter. AN APPEAL CASE. WELLINGTON, Feb. 12. In connection with Reg. Towers’ appeal against the decision of the referee in his contest with C. Purdy in Auckland, the Council after collecting all tho evidence, decided that the case was one for the Appeal Committee to deal with. The Appeal Committee is in Auckland, and tho evidence will he for-' warded there.
