WEST COAST TOURNAMENT. YESTERDAY’S PLAY. Perfect weather prevailed for the second day of the tournament. 'The green again rolled out perfectly. It bad a sL’ght hold at the start in the early morning, hut grew Ulster and Ulster as the day wore on. It is an unusual sight for the West Coast to have such a browned surtace, but ihe green was true and extremely keen. The rinks games were commenced and the play generally was lirst class. In the first round Firman and Whibley had a close run, the former winning by two points. Chegwiu and Morgan fought out a hard finish. Chegwiu winning on the last head by a point after they were level on the 20th. head. Oakley had a fairly easy win over Blaxall, the Veteran Westport skip. Stevenson had an easy win against Wise, while Buck Teat Benjamin after a ( lose game. Gagli, irdi had an easy win against Runanga. Ryan, the burly Westport Sergeant, had an easy win over Jones of Grevmouth.
In the second round Chegwin went down to Stevenson by a solid score. Wise heal Morgan by one. Oakley had an easy win. Gagliardi heating Ryan. In the third round the green was easier and the play closer. Morgan won from Stevenson, while Wise beat. Chegwiu with a four on the last head. In the section winners, Stevenson and Wise tied, while Oakley, Gagliardi and Firman won their sections outright. The arrangements of the Ladies’ Committee were very complete and the wants of the players and visitors received every possible attention at their hands. 'Throughout the dav there wore a good many onlookers who watched the play with interest. 'The green continued fast and its keenness played havoc with some of the players who found great difficulty in guaging it especially during the hottest portion of the dav. when it was at its fastest.
