BOY SCOUTS
(Contributed.) The -hid Hokitika eanip finished last week-end with the return of the Cubs from Awntuna. The first ten days oi the fortnight were spent by the Scouts under canvas, and tin' last lour hv the Cubs who, while feeding and living out. of doors, slept in a hut whose windows and doors were kept wide open alter being covered with mosquito netting. Jn the brilliantly hot weather, swimming and boating were the chiel activities— nearly all the Cubs and some of the Scouts learnt to swim their first strokes while at camp. Most of the parents visited the camp at one tunc or another, and other members of the Troop committee were also out, as well a.s the District Commissioner— Captain Adams. ,4, \U the cooking was done by Hie boys themselves without help from the Scoutmasters, who were “ invited to dinner ” by the different., patrols in turn and managed to survive! Two first-class Scouts from Christchurch were present throughout, and helped verv much in running the pntiol camps Tlic great feature of the fortnight was, however, the cheery happiness of the Wolf Cutis, among whom nothing hut smiles were to he found during the whole period they won a wav from • home. miorlunately quite a m.nibcr of Ik, lb Cub* a»< Scouts were away from the camps a I until a full iitteiidanee is obtained . effect of camping on the troop is not really satisfactory.
