[by TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] SEVEN DAYS. CHRISTCHURCH, January 21. Lionel Charles Burke, aged 12, pleaded guilty this morning to charges of being drunk while in charge of a motor-ear, resisting a constable and using obscene language. The ease arose out of an accident yesterday evening when Burke knocked down a girl cyclist. Accused i.s a commercial traveller and married. He was sentenced to seven days imprisonment. ALLEGED DRUNKENNESS. CHRISTCHURCH. Jan. 21. At the Magsirtate'.s Court this morning. Charles Clarence 'Warner (Supt. of Christchurch Eire Brigade) "as charged with drunkenness when in charge of a motor car. using indecent language and behaving in a threatening manner. The ease had been partly heard previously. Further witnesses for the prosecution said the speed ol the car before the smash was 35 or 49 miles an hour, and there was no doubt Warner was drunk. After the smash he got into the car and attempted to drive it. though the wheel was off. Sergeant Almond and a constable said they interviewed Warner in the fire station afterwards. He was then drunk and in a nasty temper. The Scrgt. denied the suggestion of counsel for'the defence that had feeling existed between them in reference to a recent fire.

Counsel said that Warner only bud two whiskies and was driving at twenty miles an hour. The car bad swerved because the hack tyre hurst. Defendant evidenced that he had been at the Richmond Working Men’s Club playing euchre prior to the accident, lie denied being intoxicated and said that lie was not in the habit of using had language. A tramway motorman evidenced that Warner missed him going 12 miles an hour. He saw Warner later and was positive he was not drunk.
