WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE.
-MONDAY, JANUARY 19th. Ihe monthly meeting was held at the County Chambers at 7.40 p.m. Present: Messrs T. W. Bruce (President), T. \\. Dull', J. CL Maefarlane, AA. D. Alaekay, D. .1. Evans, AY. J. Butler, AY. Jcllrics, J. Alorris and Dr Teiehelmann. The minutes of Lhe previous meeting were confirmed. The outward correspondence was approved. I NAVA RD COR RESPON DENX'E. From Social Welfare Committee, Rnatapu, asking delay of train to Ross, at Christmas.—Received, letter too late for action in regard to the recent holidays, hut resolved to draw the Traffic- M imager's attention to the desire of the people in regard to future holiday trains.
From Progress League, Invercargill, stating date of February conference had not been fixed yet.—Received. From N.Z. and South Seas Exhibition Committee notifying arrangements in regard to local committee.—■ Received.
The Secretary reported £l2O had /been forwarded to the Canterbury Progress League on account of the publication, “ A Holiday 'in AA'estlaud.”
From N. Z. Railways notifying alteration in Saturday time-table for the Christchurch connection.—Received and approved. The hope was expressed that the change would apply to other trains also in the service. The President referred to the necessity for a ramped way from the bridge to the railway platform, and also the construction of the turn-table to enable larger engines to be used on the line.
From Oknrito Harbour Improvement League again asking action with regard to urging the Government to take action in the matter of local improvement.—Received. .Air Jeffries said the work was a national one, and would benefit the Forestry Department. The ratepayers he thought would not undertake the burden of guaranteeing interest and sinking fund on the loan necessary. It was resolved that the matter be brought before tlie Minister of Marino at the first opportunity. GENERAL. Dr Teichelinaiin said it was expected the Minister of Marine would visit Jackson Ray towards the end of next month. Information had been collected in regard to the suggested harbom ■it the Bay, compiled by Captain Rollons. The President, Mr Jeffries and Dr Teiehelmann were appointed to represent the League on the visit to Jackson Bay by the s.s. Tutanekai to inspect harbour possibilities. It was resolved to ask lion. H. L. .Michel In enquire as to the movements of the Tutanekai. The meeting closed at B.IiO o’clock.
