LOST FIREWORKS

(To the Editor). Sir,— Returning to the old town after many years and enjoying Use renewal of old acquaintances and old associations, there is one thing I missed—the fireworks on New Year's Eve. and the old time ceremony of the whole town assembling and seeing the obi year out and the new year in. [ am told tin' custom dropped out during the war period - which of course i.s quite understandable lint the war is long past and (lie custom might he revived again. The occasion always did credit to the town, ami it was a sight to see the assembled throng. I suggest before this year goes by something may he done to revive a custom which old llokitikians always recall with pleasure, and which they speak of often when away from here. Now that the population is growing and more people coming here, the custom would ho more popular than ever. The absence of the public function leaves the occasion very tame, and the changing of the years come to pass without that pleasant gathering and reunion of the public which Hokitika in times past made such a feature of. Cannot something fie done to revive it ? T am etc.. OLD TIME VISITOR.
