THE CONTINUOUS TELEPHONE.

(To the Editor) Sir, — I am glad to see from your columns to-day that tile matter of the continuous telephone for Hokitika is being taken up. I believe the hulk of the subscribers would welcome it as an added convenience to the town. I here seems to lie so many in favor that 1 suggest those prepared to pay the additional extra fee might communicate with the Department and make their wishes known. A town of the size and importance of Hokitika should certainly have its telephone exchange open continuously. It i.s often very inconvenient on Sundays, holidays, and after hours, to find the restriction in force, and if the Department would follow the lead of the Railways and go out and look for business. I feel sure there would he no question about the indifference of the subscribers. T hope stops will he taken without delay to have the telephone kept open all round the clock on every day of the week. The .subscribers would then got lull value for their subscriptions. Yours eie.. NO. 000.
