WKI.INGTu.V January ii. i’ndcr the Gaming Act Amendment Bill passed by Parlianu-snl last session. a very large number of applications from racing and trotting clubs for permits have lu-c-n received for twelve racing lerntits available. Forty -•ix a’.plications representing forty-live days' racing Imve been recorded, and for nineteen trotting permits, twentynine applications, represent ing thirtyeight, days’ f rolling have been received. In the course of an. interview to-day. the Hon. Mr Bollard said he hoped to submit bis recommendation to Cabinet for its consideration towards the end of the present month.

“ T have received requests,'’ said the Minister. “to visit some of the racecourses in the, Canterbury district, and on the West Coast, and tlic.se requests I am complying with. 1 leave for the South to-night, and "ill visit the Oainnru and Timaru courses on Wednesday and will meet deputations from the different chits. I hope to meet the Geraldine. Ashburton, Methven, Lecston. am I Ellorslii* Clubs on Thursdav and on Friday hope to visit Rnnginra to meet the clubs in that district. On Saturday I will proceed to the West Coast. The Minister added that lie did not anticipate any difficulty in making an allocation.

“ I have been in conference with the New Zealand Racing and Trotting Authorities, and with many of the clubs concerned. ’ lie remarked, “ and we are practically in agreement with about 75 per cent of the applications. It is in deciding the other 2-> per cent, of the claims made that need verv < aivl'ul consideration.
