MIDSUMMER. MEETING. SECOND DAY RACES. The West I nil Racing Club concluded its .summer meeting on Saturday afternoon miller very pleasant conditions. During the preceding night there was a very heavy downpour, but it cleared in the early morning, and the weather gradually improved, the aitcrnoon Iteing gloriously line. The course as a result of the rain was on the heavy side, hut it dried tip wonderfully well as the afternoon wore on, and did not, interfere with the racing. The fields were not as large ns the previous day, though the racing resulted in some good finishes, notably in the Jubilee Handicap, wherein Messrs Jeffries and Shaimahan’s Viewpoint put up a very pleasing performance, and secured the honors of the day after a fine race. The attendance was satisfactory, but was not as large as that of the previous day. while the amount handled by the totalisalor fell slightly. Air Jl. Lynch and bis staff handling £9775 for the day as against £I0,U!)!) foil last' year. The receipts for the two days (£IO,SIO and £9773) totalled £20,585, which showed a decrease against last year's Exhibition meeting when £21,858 (£11,159 and £10,099) was handled, the reduction being £1275. As on the previous day the meeting passed off very successfully. There was an absence of any untoward happening during both days, and the Club officials had an easy task. The starting of Mr 11. Rutland was of high class, that for the last race of the meeting being unluckily ihe poorest send off. The Municipal Maud was again present and rendered a capital musical programme, the whole meeting proving a decided success.
