(From Our Correspondent). JIOSS STATE SCHOOL. On Friday afternoon last the presentation of prizes took place in the Ross School .when a large number of parents and visitors were present for the occasion. Air G. H. Chapman acted as chairman and the Mayoress presented the prizes. 'l'lie Chairman apologised for the absence of the Mayor and the Chairman of the School Committee who were both absent from the district. He also made feeling refeiViice to the loss the community had sustained by the death of the late Hon. .7. Grimmond who at the time of his death was a member of the Committee and who had always taken a keen interest in educational matters. Tu' referring to the work of the school for the year just closing the Chairman stated both teachers and scholars were to he congratulated on tlie splendid results obtained. According to the Inspector's’ report the school had done remarkably well. In connection with flic* l’rofioiency examination, 8 scholars had been presented of which 0 wore successful in gaining proficiency anil 2 competency which was most satisfactory. The attendance had also been good, 18 scholars had never missed a day and 18 had missed not more than five half days during the year. He heartily congratulated Mr Tilt, the head-teacher and his slafT on their splendid work for the year. Mr Pitt acknowledged the compliment and gave kudos to Miss Alillner and Miss Chesterman for the good results obtained. 'file scholars then contributed some dozen or more items consisting of songs recitations, etc., which were appreciated by the audience.
