The emergency stamps which have been in use in Janan since the earthquake of last year are to he replaced by a reissue of stamps in the old type current at the time of the catastrophe. Great progress has been made with the reconstruction of the Government printing works, and this establishment has now been working for some time on the printing of regular stamps. The emergency stamps have been issued without gum. and imperforate, a serious handicap in a country which lias long been accustomed to the modorn convenience of perforated an< ifuimnod stamps. Some of the stamps have been reported by the now issue chroniclers with perforations, hut these are all of an unofficial character.
