AMERICAN FLEET.

Meagher, ex-l.ord Mayor of Sydney, uho is a passenger by the Tahiti from America, obtained some information from Admiral Robertson. at Honolulu, regarding the visit of the American Fleet, which does not agree entirely with that published in the later cable from Washington this morning.
Air Meagher mentioned that America stand that the number of men would lie about 18,-Ml) of whom Dl.liOU would visit Auckland and Sydney and about ”•101! Wellington and Afelhourni*. A hospital ship and oil-tankers will accompany the Fleet. The .Meagher mentioned that America was spending between fifty and sixty million dollars on her naval base at San Diego. Tn addition, the American Naval Department was vastly improving the harbour of San l’edro, the Navy’s oiling base, and the harbour for law Angelos. “As alt Australian,” lie added. “I feci that every dollar Hie United States Ciovernment is spending there is something l»y wav of insurance lor Australia and New Zealand, as well its for the people of the United States.”
