[nr TELEGRAPH —I*KK PRESS ASSOCIATION.) SIR JAMES CLARKE ROSS. HOBART. November 17. Mr Pratten informed a deputation that the whaler Clarke Ross cabled on Ith. November was exempt from light dues, provided it uses Hobart as a bona lltle base.
DUNEDIN, November 17. In reference to the cable from Hobart regarding the Sir James ( lark Ross. Captain Larsen, commander of the expedition when informed ol Mr Pratten’s statement said the expedition indicated was expected but he had no intention of making llobart a base as Stewart Island had already been decided upon.
A MINISTER BEING SUED,
SYDNEY. Nov. 17. It is announced that Sir M • Anol and Company has issued a writ claiming damages against Mr Ball. Ministei oAvorks, Mr Cooper, Under-Secretary for Works, and Doctor Brndtield, engineer and designer of the North Shore Bridge, in respect to an alleged the contained in the report of Dr Bradheld to the Minister, hearing upon the steel which Arrol’s proposed to use in the construction of the bridge. It is unofficially stated the damages claimed amount to £30,000.
