The trial of Iteiijamiii Harris Shutes. charged with the murder of Reginald Louis Shore on the night ol October Kith, at the Aurora Hotel, was continued. At the conclusion of the Crown's case. Mr McVeigh, for the accused, said lie did not propose to call evidence*. In addressing the jury, lie said there were three views they might take: that the act was done in sell-deteuee. that il was purely an accident, and that it was committed under provocation. Mr McVeigh proceeded to discuss the value of the statement made by the accused to the police voluntarily and within 2-1 hours ol the tragedy and before the accused knew the details of the evidence to be used against him. The statement referred to was to the effect that it was merely n coincidence that he (Shutes) bad a knife in bis band. Then be met Short in the hotel passage and that deceased struck him a heavy blow and that be (Shiites) had thrown out his bands and cut Short with bis knife.
