AUCKLAND RACING CLUB. AUCKLAND, November 1. The first day of the A.R.C. Spring Meeting was held in good weather. The going was rather dead, as the result of recent rain. There was n large attendance, including the GovernorGeneral and Lady Jollicoe. The totalisator look £01,700, compared with £73,293; for the corresponding day of last year. The following are the results:—
Trial Hurdles. —Narrow Neck 1, Curcaform 2, Cherry Ripe 3. Mon by two lengths, third one length away. Time ‘J. 18 3-3.
Great Northern Guineas.—Town Hank 1, Motley 2, Tuliine 3. Threequarters nf a length each way. I itlto 1.12.
M’eleome Stakes.—Automne 1, llyile Park 2, The Thorn 3. M’on by a length third half a length away. Time —1.2 3-3. Hunters’ Steeples.—Roller 1, Lady Bruce 2, Glentui 3. M’on by live lengths; third six lengths away. Time—s.lo. Shorts Handicap.—linn Quin 1, Royal Blood 2, Lucas 3. M’mt by threequarters of a length; third a Heck away. Time—l.l-12-3.
Mitchelson Cup.—Royal Present 1, Illumination 2, Ruapapa 3. Mon by a head; third one and a-half lengths nwav. Time—2.3B.
Gordon Handicap.—Gold Fern 1, Gauntlet 2. General Prydc 3. Mon by a neck ; third a head away. Time —l.lO 2-3.
Flying Handicap.—Qiiinclte 1, thunderclap 2, Lady Ridicule 3. M’on by three lengths; third a length away. Time—l.3o.
Barometer’s connection in the Mitchelson Cup had hard luelc, as the horse collided with a spectator when in a leading position. 3 lie spectator, "as H. T)iver, of Onehunga. He was under the impression that the bores already had passed, and he walked on to the course, resulting in the collision, and putting Barometer out ol the race. Diver was sent to the hospital, with somewhat painful injuries.

There was an enormous attendance, including several New Zealanders, the Governor-General, the State Governor, and the Governor of New South Males. The results arc: .Maiden Plate.—Metellus 1, Prince Florv.el 2, .Prince Mitiimbah 3. M’oii by three lengths. Time—l.dlj. Marybyrong Plate.—Manacre 1, Petunia 2, Scige 3. M’uu by a head. Time—l.2;. MELBOURNE STAKES. Gloaming 9st (G. Young) 1 Whittier 9st 31b (F. Dempsey) 2 Easingwold list 31b (Harrison) '
Ensingwuld and MTiittier led in the early stages, Gloaming being third. The latter took charge in the straight and won easily by three-quarters of a length there being two lengths between second and third. Time—2.s;.
Gloaming had a great reception alter the race, whilst lie was cheered with great enthusiasm on entering the course. Gloaming looked a winner below the distance, lie came up on the outside. The lirst two furlongs of the race took 27.1 seconds, the next two 211 seconds, and the succeeding two the same. The last mile was covered in 1 .311 j.

Spent felt registered the easiest win <-ur uitncs-cd in the Derby Spear tell’;. Ir.liner is the New Zealander. Mr Y. O’Neill, and he was ridden by G. Young, wlm also won the .Melbourne Stakes. Brimming was the first away in the Derby, and led out of the straight Imm Sir Digloch. Spearfelt began none too well. Sir Digloch had charge at the mile, and then came Brimming and Arlamus, while Spcarlclt was eight and Koval ('barter second to last. Spcarfelt improved his position, and was second at the half mile, lie headed the pacemaker Sir Dighlock, half a mile from home, lie drew away ill the straight and own easily. Royal Charter finished well, and Yersine was a fair third. Then came Sir Dighlock Brimming, Wycherley, Artanius and Solidimy. King Yictor was last. .Central Stakes.—Night I’atrol 1, The Hawk (N.Z.) 2, Beeline 11. Nine started. AYoii by a neck: third two lengths away. Time—l.llß.V. The Hawk weighed in 2',lbs light, and Beeline was placed second and Euglefield third. G. Young's mount, Blackadder, was fifth.

GLOAMING’S AY INNINGS. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 1. Gloaming’s winnings arc now ClO,7 (50. SYDNEY, November 1. ,7. AL Cameron, trainer of The Hawke, was fined ten pounds in connection with the horse weighing in short in the Contain Stakes. Spearfelt’s trainer, Yiucent O’Neill, is a native of Hastings. Gloaming looked well when walking at Kleiniiiglon to-day. Wallace Alortlake was missing in the last four furlongs of the Derby which was run in ‘I9J.
