THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
Wlir.lll-. TIIK Watti.k Bi.oo.mr
Australia has a heart of gold, Hut it lies long where none can see Through all the winter months of coh She hides it —in the wattle tree.
She hides it till the days grow long. Till showers fall, and breezes blow, till thrushes come with lyric song’Tis then her heart begins to show.
She (lings it down in gullies dim, (Sv pools so dark, by gum trees o!c She covers up the hillsides grim. And turns them into cloth of gold.
Where’er we turn, hy hill or stieam, By little paths that wind apart, The "tittle lies, a day-time dream— Australia’s glowing, golden heart. Each Spring my own heart thrills anew With this great joy she brings to me; I love her none the less though—true— She wears her heart where all can see.
