LEGISLATIVE council. WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. The Council agreed with the amendments proposed by the Governor-Gen-eral on the Railways Authorisation Rill, the Dairy Industry Rill, the Mining Amendment Rill and the Native Trustee Amendment Bill, which were received from the House and read a first time and second time pro forma and referred to the Committee*

Sir F. Hell gave notice of his intention to introduce the British Nationality and Status of Aliens’ Amendment Bill, the object ol which is to allow Samoans to become British subjects without the necessity for a knowledge of the English language. On the motion of Sir F. Bell, the second reading of the Tolaga Bay Harbour Board Empowering Amendment Bill was defeated by 18 votes to 10. The Education Amendment Bill was reported from the Education Committee with amendments.

The Council adjourned at 3.55 until to-morrow.

THE HOUSE

In the House the Bitting Amendment Bill and the industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill were introduced and read a first lime. The Native Land Rating Bill was also read a first time and referred to the Native Aaflirs Committee.

The Fruit Control Rill, the Public Works Amendment, the Shipping and Seamen's Amendment Rills were put through all stages and passed. The House rose at 12.-10.
