COUNTRY RACING CLUBS’ CONFERENCE.

AY ELLINGTON, Oct. 25. At a meeting of the Executive of the New Zealand Country Racing Clubs’ Association on Friday forenoon, amendments were proposed to the constitution of the New Zealand Racing Conference, particularly regarding representation on the conference proposals. In the forenoon they were conveyed to a special, committee of the Conference now sitting at Wellington. The meeting resolved to telegraph the Prime Minister and Leader of the Liberal Party congratulating and thanking them for their attitude upon the Gaming Bill. Air Massey was thanked specially for honouring his promises to the Country Clubs’ Association regarding the matter. Tt was resolved also to communicate with the Labour Leader suggesting ns a demonstration against the Bill had now been made, in the interest oT sport further factious delay should he avoided, also pointing out that tin* Bill was promised primarily to Country Clubs for the benefit of racing in various districts at present debarred from participating, and in the interest of the country generally, according to promises made, and it

A mysterious disturbance was observed at Herbertville on Friday occurring about four miles off shore in the path of coastal sea traffic. Shortly before night a huge volume of water shot ill the air 200 feet. Another shot is reported to have occurred a few minutes later, while a third, but. less spectacular, took place shortly after 9 o’clock, the sea being subsequently discoloured over a considerable area, showing that, the oeean bed had been disturbed. The scene of the upheavals: was about three miles south of Capo Turnagain. About an hour later a coastal steamer passed over the spot.
