FIRE IN KINEMA QUARTER
GIRLS' NARROW ESCAPE(Received this clav nt 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 23. At n. senentional five in the kinoina quarter of London, forty fire engines were in action. An explosion occurred in tile premises of the Ideal Film Company and the Topical Film Company in Wnrdour Street, blowing out the windows. The flames leaped across the road and set lire to a motor car standing outside Rathe Frures Ltd., opposite. t . Meanwhile thousands of feet of iopical films were ablaze and in a few minutes the hip building was ablaze, tongues of fire shooting high above the roof, cutting off the escape of the girl employees who rushed to the windows. The horror stricken passers-by, seeing the screaming women learning from tho second floor windows, shouted to them to jump into the street. The girls did so and one of them caught her heels ns she was jumping through n window and fell on her head. She was picked np unconscious. Otherwise none were seriously hurt, but seven were taken to the hospital for treatment of bad burns.
