SYDNEY. Oct. 16. Obituary.—-Mrs Randal Carey, relict of John Randal Carey, a former President of the Telegraph Newspaper Company. She was horn in Auckland 73 years ago. A POLITICAL SENSATION. SYDNEY. Oct. 17. A sensation lias been caused in political circles by the arrest of two men. William Joseph AlcCartliy and Cornelius Cullen, on a charge of allegedly falsely pretending to C. IL. Alitrphy, a member of the Legislative Assembly, that they had power and were in a position to prevent his expulsion from the Australian Labour Party, thereby attempting to obtain £SO from him, with the intent to defraud. It appears, according to Afurphy, that the two men approached him with the oiler contained in the charge, and lie communicated with tho police, who arranged that he should meet the men. This was done and while in conversation a detective arrived, and the two men and Afurphy were taken to the police station, where the charge was laid.

A two storied wool store. covering about a third of an acre at Botany wool scouring works, of Swinburne and Strcel hens, was destroyed by tire last night. The store with its valuable contents of llecce proved extremely inllaiiimalile and the premises were left a pile of ruins in a remarkably short space of time. The cause of the outbreak is unknown.
