THURSDAY, OCT. 16th. (Before W. Mcldrum, Esq., S.M.) LICENSING alt, Charges of being on licensed promises after hours without luuful excuse were ..cult with as follows: Two residents (Southland Hotel) ordered to pay (lists i.s ccteil. One icsident (Southland Hotel).Fined 20s and costs 7s. A resident of Kimu (for whom Air .Murdoch appeared) pleaded not guilty to being on the Commercial Hotel, Kimu. Evidence was given by Const. Drummond who visited the hotel about 11.50 a.m. oil Sunday the 12th. ult.. and after entering the hotel by the ..ack way heard the front door close and going out saw the defendant in the. road. Considered he had just come out ol the hotel. The defendant gave evidence that he lived about a chain away from the hotel. He had hreaktast at the hotel at 8.15 a.m. He had not been on the premises again till 12.20 when he went for dinner. A neighbour also gave evidence, and then his Worship held there was no proof of defendant actually being on the premises. The charge was dismiss#!. Two other residents similarly charged at the same time also pleaded not guilty, and after hearing the evidence of the Constable and the two defendants, the explanations of the latter were accepted and the charges were dismissed. Four yuung men charged (Mflsonie Hotel) pleaded not gui’.ty. Alter hearing the evidence ol Const. Best and two of the deleiidants all were convicted. Two were ordered to pay costs 7s each and two were found 20s and costs 7s each.
