The Ladies lloekov Clul> held a hauf|iiet at Stow’s rooms last iniglit to celebrate the winning of the .McKeclinie Clip in flic season’s West Coast competition. Cpwards of forty ladies and gentlemen attended and .Mr I). .1. Evans (President of the Club) presided. The proceedings were of a very hearty character.’ .Mr and Mrs Slow had provided a splendid repast, the tables being loaded with good things. The table and room decorations were very effective, the red and black colours of the ciub predominating. The Chairman in opening the proceedings congrnluliitcd the ('lull on its success, and advised hard practice for next
season so as to assure winning the cup outright. With fit players and a good ground such as Cass Square should he next season, the Club should excel again. A gold brooch was offered to the player most regular in attendance at practice. The toast of the evening was entrusted to Mr Wethev who complimented the Club on its win and wished the Club every sticeess in the future. The toast was received with musical honours. The Club Captain (Miss .1. Walker) and the Field Captain (.Miss (). Stapleton) with Mr Bradley, replied to the toast. The toast of “Kindred Sports” was proposed hy Mr CL Aitken, and replied to by every gentleman present who snoko on behalf of some sport or pasltime from ping-pong to rounders. Other toasts were honoured, and several songs and other mucisal items were rendered, the evening concluding with games. It was a very jolly gathering, fitting for the occasion, and rounding off the successful season for the Club very pleasantly.

A narrow escape from serious accident, if not certain death, hefel a shunter, J. Smith, at the Greymouth Bailway Station Yards yesterday afternoon. Smith was engaged in shunting operations, and as the engine was turning the point, he was caught by the Imse hags, and became wedged between the buffers of the engine and the next vehicle. Medical aid was summoned and alter a brief rest Mr Smith was able to proceed to his homo.
