Benjamin Harrison Shiites appeared nt the Police Court on tlio charge of the murder of Louis Short, and also of assaulting Frederick Janies Sands, licensee of tho City Hotel, and of committing' nil assault on Oscar Arthur Jensen, first Assistant Engineer of the steamer AVest Islep. Several ineiiihers of the creiv gave evidence as to tho accused being drunk, and Jensen stated that when on tho steamer, ho told the accused to ceaso nrguing, and. Shiites rushed nt him with a knife in his hand, inflictitifjc a (task in the cheek. Witness knocked tho licensed unconscious with a niece of timber in sell defence. The bearing was adjourned till tomorrow.
