Local control Was superior to central control, and he hoped that the Department would put the hospital under the control of the Auckland Board. Ur. A'alintinc said the Department was handicapped by the fact that it would he unwise for them to hand ovei two *‘(11111" institutions in Christchurch and Dunedin and hand over two live ones in Auckland and Wellington to the hoards. .Mr ,). Dove, Otago, .seconded the motion. They Imped for a similar hospital in time. Air J. Coyle, Amklaiul, expressed the desire of his hoaid to assume control of the hospital. The Department was desirous of retaining St. Helens Hospitals for the present, at any rate, not from selfishness, but because of the very different training for midwives and nurses to lie provided in the near future, said Dr Yalintine.
Finally Mr E. Castle moved that the matter he left to the hoards concerned. The (onferen e approved.
DEPUTATION 'TO MR MASSEY. A deputation from the Conference waited on Air Massey and laid before him the resolutions passed.
Air Alassev gave a sympathetic* reply generally. As to whether trustees should lie permitted to lend money to tin* lion!(Is. All* .Massey said it must he referred to the Treasury Department. Personally he thought the hoards’ securities were quite good enough. He agreed that something mist la.* done regarding llie lees of native patients. Tin*re had been a pioposal to place maternity homes under the control of the hospital hoards. He thought this a good suggestion, as the hoards were quite competent to deal with them. Quite likely n Bill would he brought do" 11 this session to deal with uipcratinuation for nurses. Tt:e only dilliculty was in regard to muses winking oil their own behalf. Regarding social hygiene lie said the position was not verv satisfactory. Compulsory no t i tientiun might he necessary, and people who objected must put up with the consequences. They could not have the health of the community played with.

Details of tin* Dominion Hospital Boards’ Association, which the conference to-day decided to form, show that the association will lie known as tin* Hospital Hoards’ Association of New Zealand and shall lie duly registered and incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act, I9LS. The association is formed for the purpose of consultation by members on questions of general interest to themselves and discussion of matters relating to hospital hoards’ activities. It is a'.so in watch over and protect the interest, rights and privileges o." members aim to promote the ellieieut carrying out of hospital administration throughout tho Dominion. Each hospital hoard is entitled to appoint one delegate to represent it at each confi*:encc of the association, piovideil that any hoards in whose district there is a population exceeding ."O.LOII shall elect two delegates, and rovided further that the Auckland. AYollington. North Cauterh'urv and Otago Boards shall elect three delegates. Kuril delegate present is to have one vote only, notwithstanding that lie may lcprevoil more than one hoard. Expenses of delegates are to lie borne by tin* hospital hoard represented. All hospital hoards who subscribe to the fluids id the nssueialion in terms of the provisions lire deemed to lie members of the association. The annual sulearitii.ll is to I e payable in the month ol July in each year, and the amount ol subscription is not to exceed one-tenth per cent of the amount of each hoard's maintenance requirements for the year preceding. The financial year of tin* Association shall commence on April I in each year and close on .March .11 next ensuing. The executive committee is to appoint a secretary, who shall also lie Measurer, and are empowered from time to time to appoint such other ofliceis as may he necessary to assist in carrying out the aims and objects of the association. A provisional executive was elected. It was as follows: President, Mr AY. Wn.llacc (Auckland); vico-pcrsident, ARIL d 01-ley (North Canterbury); executive, Messrs d. Quclcli (Otago), F. Castle (Wellington), and .7. B. Hornblow fPalmerston North).
