An alarm of fire was given at Kiniu
Ibis morning about -I.3'} o’clock when it was seen tlmt the Commercial Hotel was on fire. T lie tlaines bad a good hold when discovered and the building was soon a seething mass of flames., The fire spread rapidly and enveloped the whole building, and spread to the Itimu Heading ltomn alongside, both buildings being demolished. Practically nothing was saved from the hotel. The promises of Mr M. Casliman. storekeeper on the south side, separated bv a right-of-way, was in grave <!nnger. and was badly scorched. Iheie was a largo number ol willing helpers present, but a bucket biigado was (lie onlv means of attempting to cope with the ll.lines, and this was of no use I'Xiopt to keep 11 >c* fkinion i**oin .'piuiuling I'urthei*. . The C’.immeieial Hotel was only taken over a few mouths ago. by the piesent licensee, Mr Y\ . K. Hennison. the hotel for many years having been m charge of Mrs A. lannaeruft.
