Elaine Calvert innocently int ere feres in a religious rite and incurs the wrath oi the Sultan. She is defended, hv >. huldar Bcu-i'.lk, c liief of a tribe of bandits and particularly hated by the Sultan. One of Chidclar’s tribesmen, seeking the favour of the Suit an, kidnaps Elaine. Cliicldar realizes Elaine’s danger, so he engages a light with Alileef for possession of Elaine, and Chiddar wins, lie tells her that, while he cannot return her to her uncle, he can prevent her falling into the hands ol the Sultan. Elaine's unde secures the help ol the U.S. .Marmies under the command of MMigrate, lie is recognized by the Sultan as the man who. years helore. stole from his palace a beautiful desert princess awaiting marriage to the Sultan. Permission is given Millgrate to enter the desert, the Sultan asking nil greater revenge than that Millgrate should kill Ohadilar. who is the former's sou. ’1 he bandit s stronghold is attacked and Dulaid. taken prisoner. Then Millgrate recognizes Chidclars muffler, Dulaid, as his lost wife. Disregarding orders, Millgrate frees Chiddar, and then resigns from tiie service. Chiddar regards his father as only an adventurer and refuses friendship. Millgrate accepts the captaincy of a merchant vessel. When lie and Dulaid go on hoard they find they have fallen into a plot of the Sultan's. Millgrate is hung from the mast, to he slowly battered to death. The desert tribe, proclaiming war on the Sultan, boards the boat. The Sultan is killed, Chiddar rescues his father and forgives him. When Chiddar returns to the tents no the desert ho is made happj by a promise from Elaine, who lias given her heart to the care of her desert captor.
