M the Ashburton farm of the Department of Agriculture ewes m land) have been pastured for the past ten days on a stand of lucerne with satisfaction. In conveying this information to a reporter. -Mr U. E. Ward. Instructor in Agriculture, reinnked that a well eared for lucerne stand, particularly if the soil favours early growth. -Juts proved very suitable tor the pasturing of. ewes at lambing time. Ibis your,"with its unusual dryness at this season, the .‘lf acres of lucerne 0.1 the Ashburton farm has proved very useful for the purpose. A portion of the held in question was used for grazing sheep last year and was grafted on six occasions' during the season, and the fact that it is providing feed at tlyis early date shows that no damage was caused to the stand as the result of this treatment. _____
