BOY SCOUTS.

(Contributed.) J. Blackgrove was enrolled Just week as a Tenderpad in the 2nd. Hokitika Pack of Wolf Cubs, while in the 2nd. Troop A. Spence and R. Bone completed their tests as 2nd. Class; Scouts and I’. Vealo qtialiiied for the Bee Farmers badge. Three members of this troop spent a brilliantly fine Friday to Sunday under canvas at S. Spit and were joined by others on the Saturday for an interesting ramble through thick bush, which, the party being without compass afforded a practice in obtaining direction from the sun etc.

The meeting of Scoutmasters has been iixed for Thursday evenings at Air Parham’s house ill Bealey Street. It will start- this week at 7 o’clock and anyone interested or inclined to help will he very welcome indeed.

Both troops had a committee meeting arranged for last Tuesday evening but the Scoutmasters’ meetings are quite informal and form a good opportunity for obtaining a view or what the two troops tire doing and generally getting into touch with scouting without pledging oneself in any way to actually help. It would bo especially encouraging to those responsible for the troops and packs to see some •of tlTe old Scouts and especially ex-members of the Hokitika Rover Patrol at these meetings. It has been a disappointment all along that these have not collie forward to guide and counsel the newcomers at present in charge locally and whatever pleasant memories they have of happy scouting days should act as spurs to urge them to repay something to the hoys of the town to-day.
