Mrs Rosalie Evans, widow of u former President- of the Bank of London in Mexico, was shot dead in the vicinity of Texmelucau State, Puebla, on Saturday evening. Airs Evans was shot through the left side, falling iiotn tlie buggy in which she was driving. Her hair caught it: the wheels and her hotly was dragged, the face being badly mutilated. John Strauss, the German manager of Airs Evans’ hacienda. who was accompanying her, was seriously wounded. 'I lie shivers are believed to he Agrarians, incited by anti-foreign agitators. They escaped with a pay roll of two thousand pesos, which Strauss was carrying. .MEXICO CITY, August. 3.
The name of Airs Evans recently mine up in connection with alleged attempts by .Mexican troops to seize her great estate. It was reported that large portions of her arable lands have been taken over, and many live stock driven off*. Airs Evans s tight against the alleged attempts to seize her property wore taken tip by the British wiinrge D’Arehives, Air Cummings. There was an acrimonious dispute between him an.l the .Mexicali authorities. on behalf of Airs Evans. It resulted in the Mexican Government’s demand for his withdrawal.
