IUHTRALIAN AND N.Z. CARLE ASSOCIATION. BOW OVER BOXING. FAR IS. July 21. The Olympic boxing contests ended at midnight amid scenes of such disorder that the British Olympic Committee, after the meeting, notified the luternatioual Committee that it would he impossible for British boxers to compete at future Olympic mootings. Some of the French newspapers arc beginning to express ike view that tlie Olympic Games do more harm than good in the field of international relations.
THE TIMES PROTESTS
AT OLYMPIC HAPPENINGS
["Tub Ti.mks” Service.] (Deceived this day at, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON. July 22. •No more Olympic games," is the heading under which the “Times” delivers judgment upon the disgraceful scenes in Paris. It says the unhappy experience confirmed with dreadful clearness the long felt misgivings that the tendency of these games is to intlamr. lather than to allay international animosities. Olympiad lias been weighed in the balance and found not only wanting lint positively dangerous. Both the actions of individual competitors and spectators have given rise to disagreeable incidents of definitely provocative and volcanic character. Even the judging has not been free from reproach. It adds that the disturbances of this kind, culminating in open expressions ol national hostility, might conceivably end in worse trouble The peace of the world is too precious lo justify any risk, however wild the idea may seem ol being sacrificed on the altar of international sport. The right spirit of such sport was rightly shown at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Despite the severity of the detent of the Empire, the competitors and spectators look the beating in perfect good humour, while the Americans "were entirely free from arrogance ot success. hut in Olympiad apparently this human camaraderie is not proof against tin 4 loss of self-control to which national partisanship may give rise in time. It concludes liv drawing attention to a correspondent’s view that nobody would feel justified in again appealing for public support in sending another full British team to Olympiad.” adding "it _ limy he expected that ‘Americans concur in this view and that the death knell of the Olympiad has been sounded.
