At. the practice meeting of the Hokitika Fire Brigade held on I tux-day night. Foreman Itobert Puss ol No 1 Company, tendered his resignation as a member of the Brigade.
Supl. Braddon in moving that the resignation !>.* accented with extreme regret, staled that !''oretu:tn Boss had served in the Brigade lor forty years. ||e had proved lumseil i very efficient fireman. and througlioiil that lung period hid rarely mi-wd a practice, end was always one of the lir-t on the scene on ail alarm ol lire. A capable an ! i (iicjciu fireman, he had also proved a capable representative ol the Bri-g-id at comp, -thioii- in In- earlier war-. Bight up to the day ol rc-igna-t ion he hail been one of the most regular utlcnder- al the practices and meetings, and n most elliciellt officer ill_ every respect, at all times having the esteem and support of his fellow meinIjci'.s. Personally he deeply regretted till- severance of the pleasant connection of so many years duration, but he recognised that foreman Boss had done his duty taithfully and well, and was entitled now to take a well-earned rest. The motion was agreed to on the voices, alter several members had endorsed the expressions of appreciation of past services and regret at tile severance of the old link of comrade-hip.
Some time ago the Brigade marked its appreciation of the long and taithfnl services rendered over such a long period of years by electing Mr Boss a life honorary memlier. Mr Bn" holds tile gold star of the ITiited fire Brigades' Association for 2A years’ service, and aKo a number of gold bars tor the additional service of years. Mr Boss has a valued record that both himsedi and the eominuiiitv can look hack on with pleasure and satisfaction.
