SEVEN-A-SIDK final.

kokatahr WINS CUP

The final of the sevcn-a-side Senior tournament, which was not played on June 3rd owing to darkness intervening. took place on C'ass Square on Saturday afternoon before a fair audience. Kiwis were represented by McF.naney, Walker. Duncraft, Tlalliday, Moynilinti. Steel and C. Stevens; whilst the Kokatahi players were Kayes, If. Fleming, Bannister, C. Fleming. .T. O’Connor. Mnynihnn and Wright. Tiio Kiwis had far the best of it in the first seven minutes, Kokatahi’.s tactics not proving as successful as they should have done owing to one player not being slick enough in getting round on to the hall. Hallidny secured and transferred to Moynihau, to Dunciaft. to Moynilian. who dummied, letting out to Steel who raced aiiiug the line and secured a nice try, hut his kick failed. From the change over Kokatahi altered their tactics with the result that they gained ground alter every scrum and had the Kiwis defending in Chop t-rritoiy, the brunt of the attack falling on C. Stevens who brought off some spectacular saves, he playing a very sound game right throughout. A 1 hen in a dangerous position near the Kiwis line. Fleming .secured and got over scoring between the posts. Bannister converting easily. Kinds worked tho Macks down, but they were never dangerous. Weight relieved ami by fast following up the blacks got tho hall up to halfway where il went out. From now on the blues were pinned in their half until the whistle. Kokatahi I.it king out. Kokatahi n, Kiwis 3.

In the first seven minutes if Ifalliday had the luck to .scoop the ball in he would have been suio to have scored as his foot alone should have carried him ever, although lie had nearly half the length of the field to run. The Kiwis did not seem to play with the dash they had on the previous occasion nor with tho same confidence either. C. Slovens played with his usual confidence and got his side out of some very dangerous positions, at times his saves being speetfictilar and „„ the day there was nothing to look near him in defence and sound judgment. although Wright, though not as spectacular as Stevens, played and kicked with judgment. Hayes the Kokatahi forward is also in a class by himself, his tackling and following up being splendid. There were no arm or neck-holds adopted by him. his judgment was good and he never failed to gel hi-. Ilian. Kokatahi can thank their tactician for tkoir win and every cu dit i- due to him. lining the winners of the tournament Kokatahi this secures the handsome Cup which was donated h.v the Licensed Victuallers’ Association.
