Kiu.iNd Weeps with Steam
Steam fvoni locomotive boilers is being used by the Southern (1.5. A.) llailway Company to kill weeds along, the right of way. The steam is superheated bv passing it through an oil furnace, carried on a special ear. and ii is then delivered to trie right-oi-v.'sy through performated pipes, so arranged that they may. he raised or lowered. It hits the weeds to he destroyed at a temperature ol ii'oiil iOO to 900 degrees, and at a pressure ol 7fill) to the square inch. The whole outfit travels at a speed of front two and a half to four miles an hour, depending on the thickness of the weeds. Four trip's *i season will keep down a dense growth of weeds.
