ANSWERING MR ATMORE
MR HOLLAND IN KERRY
Speaking in his constituency lust week, Air Holland replied to Air Atmore’s recent- strictures at Nelson on the Labor party, with particular reference to his own personal defence. Air Holland maintained he had been partly quoted only by Air Atmore, and to that extent had been misrepresented. What he had said at Uenniston in ltlgg would bear repeating, and he stood I; v cverv word o! it. 11 icy would find his exact words (quoted from the “Alaoriland Worker’s" report) in Hansard. vol. 10!), page 21!) as follows: ••The only alternative to the policy and tactics of the Labour Party was that of violence—the method of insurrection and civil war. For, however it progressed, humanity would progress, whether by the Labour’s Party way or the other way. Political power would eventually he captured by the workers whether by the orderly methods of knowledge advocated by the Labour Party, or by the process of civil war. He was confident that the great changes which were both necessary and inevitable would be accomplished by peaceful methods so tar as the workers were concerned. Xo thoughtful person in the working class movement with a knowledge of the historical conditions of New Zealand would seriously advocate civil war. and the only danI gcr of violence was that which might come from the capitalist class when the workers had won through the puli'*." Air Holland went on to say that this revelation of the very peculiar methods employed liv Mr Atmore against the Labour Party proclaimed that gentleman’s utter unreliability, and left him where lie Dominion elector jealous of probity in the livid ol polities would he likely to regard any further attack from that quarter in a serious light. Air Atmore was quite unable to he 01 iginal in his misrepresentations. He had fallen back on Mr Alassey for bis matter, and the only time lie approached originality was when he perpetrated the act of mutilation.
