A despatch from Providence, Rhode Island, says a compromise has been reached whereby Olden and oilier tennis pla.ver-wrilers are to retain their amateur standing, and which is expected to settle the controversy between the Tennis Association and the plater-writers. It has been set forth by 'Olden. Cudcr its terms, Tildcit will he eligible to rejoin the t nited Stales Davis Cup team. It provides that player-writers shall retain the right to write tennis articles provided that in their (kbit tepnri of tournaments in which any player-writer is competing. he shall esc milker Itis name imr Tilden’s. A further telegram says: The pla.verwrilers controversy, which embroiled some of the country’s leading tennis players, has been won by the racquet wielders. The champion, however, made no further statement, beyond declaring he would accept the invitation to rejoin the Davis Cup squad from Mm Coiled States, and would he delighted to play if'his services were still required.
