A meet in;: of the M'es'r Coast- District Highways Council was hold in the Public M’orks Office. Ooymouth, last evening. There were present ; -Messrs .1. D. Lillies (ehair). L. d. Bell (Tnnncalnial. d. Higgins (Urey). 1). J. TNans (M'estlandi. D. d. Archer (Bnller), and H. M'atkinson. I*. M'. D. Kngineor. It was resolved on the motion ol Ms Krasis seconded hy Mr Higgins to ask the Main Highways Board to forward ssgreements with the local bodies in reference to the declaration and maintenance of Government roads, and sirrange as to payment of subsidies. Mr Archer asked it any extraordinaiy expenditure was incurred hy Councils sis the result of commencing work before the roads were gazetted sis Government roads could he claimed against the Highways Board, lie refersod to his enmity where they were authorised to repair certain bridges during tbr railway strike. The work once started, had to he completed. The Chairman thought the claims would he recognised. Mr Kvans moved the following motion: That the Main Highways Board he asked to declare the main highways for the No 12 District from Karamea to the littiisl and that the Council on behalf of the local bodies concerned jrjve the required assurance that the bodies will contribute as originally arranged. Mr Bell seconded the motion, which was carried. The Chairman said that the Grey and Inangahitsv Counties wore applying to the Council i»r deviations on ]>or- , je.sis of the (ley mnutb-Reef ton" roads. Correspondence between the Hokitika Borough Council and the Main Blgltvssvs Board showed that the latter I,'odv recommended st tally being taken of the tesiHi:• on the streets for which „ subside was asked. The streets rcSided were Kitzherhest Street Lom north town boundary to interaction with Stafford street and Stafford street from intersection with l’itzIsefhert Street to east town boundary. The Council recommended all applications from Counties in No 12 District for tar sealed roads, the Board to he asked what financial assistance would he granted. Light miles were preposed in each of the M'e.slland and Givv Counties.
