N.S.W. POLITICS.
Sli7.Ni.Vj -May 23. The politicians of New South Wales
have all been suddenly seized with a
peripatetic tit. They are indulging in a whirlwind campaign in the country before the assembling of Parliament in ,Inne or July,
'l'lie Nationalists initiated the campaign, and the others, of course, are on their heels. Although (ioveriinieiit supporters ridicule any idea of an election before next year, Labour members read into the Nationalists’ campaign a fear on the part of the latter that, without the support of the Progressives when the House meets, they may he defeated, and an anxiety to tickle the ears of the electors in
case a rush election is forced upon the. The Government's campaign, in fact, is looked upon in the Labour camp as a little hit of "window dressing.” The fact that no agreement has been entered into between the Government which is a coalition of Nationalists and several Progressives, and the Parliamentary Progressive Party, headed hy Colonel Hruxncr, regarding the Government's programme for the next session certainly lends silinilirance In the campaign, although it is believed that Sir (leorge Fuller's team will have tins support of Colonel Hriixner’s Party. The latter showed their teeth dtutug the last scs-ion, but now linn they have secured the appointment of a Loyal Commission on new States and an expert enquiry in in the railways. and have ventilated their grievance regarding the wheat compensation, the Government, it is believed, is not expecting any hostility from inat quarter. Labour, buoyed up hy its success In the other States, is hoping that the diehard Progressives will east Sir George Fuller and his team into the political wildorucss.
