The Mawheraiti Hotel, occupied by Mrs Watt, was demolished by fire on Friday at midnight, there being only a, couple of chimneys standing next morning. The building, which ln-longed to Mr L. Pedrazzi. ami included, the local post office .was insured for about £BOO. The occupants saved little or nothing, their loss l>eiiig reported to have included a sum of money.
Owing to the rough weather of the last few (lavs, ii lias been decided to extend the time of closing the entries for the Chrysanthemum Show, until Tuesday (to-morrow) afternoon at 5 p.m. An alteration has been made in class 51, collection of vegetables, to read 8 varieties instead of 12, as per schedule. The ladies’ committee desire those who have promised donations of cake, refreshments, etc., for the tea room, to leave same at the Schoolroom on Wednesday morning or to acquaint Mrs I’urchas at the Vicarage.
The death took place at her late residence, Kilgour lload, at 2 o'clock oil Saturday afternoon of Mrs Ruby Stevenson, of the Dispatch Foundry staff, Oreymoufh. Deceased was in her usual health up to a few days ago, when she contracted pleurisy which developed into pneumonia. ller death was unexopocted, as it was thought on Saturday morning that she was on the road to recovery. The late Mrs Stevenson. who was about 38 years of age. was youngest daughter of Mrs Cunliflo ami the late Mr W. C'unlifTe, of Marsdon Road, and a native of Grevmoutfi. She was of a kind and cheerful disposition, and was very highly respected. In addition to her husband and two children, deceased leaves the following sisters:—Mesdames li. West, 11. D. I'idwsirds and S. Eddy (Wellington), G. Schaef (Greyiiiouth), and an unmarried sister, Miss Maggie Cunlifi'c (borough librarian), and also three brothers, William and Thomas (Greymouth) and Richard (Wellington) and her mother, Mrs W. Cuiililfc, of Marsden Road.
