A movement is afoot to inaugurate a local choral society. At a preliminary meeting last week the suggestion was taken tip with a good deal of spirit, and it is likely that the happy event will be brought to pass. It should prove a very popular movement over the winter mouths.

The executive of the Institute considers the procedure highly objectionable, and has advised members to refrain from sending voting papers.

Thi' “ l.yttelton Times ’’ reports that Gwithn King, aged 20, was found in the bathroom of her residence at 27(1. Hereford .Street, on Friday afternoon in strange circumstances. She had apparently jumped into the hath tied a rope round her legs, turned on the water, and then lasceratcd her throat. Fortunately her head was kept above water, or no doubt she would have been drowned, as it is understood that site was missing for two hours prior to being found. She was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where she is reported to he progressing favourably.
