The telephone exchange receipts are n t at all proportionate to. the size and population of the districts as the following instances show :—Auckland £321 (q Wellington £I7BO, Christchurch £-1003, Dunedin £35,5G2, . Invercargill £13.502, Gisborne £10,083. Napier £2-1,110, New Plymouth £l-1,-201, Wanganui £17,778. On the other hand the largo centres have a much larger private telephone service. The press telegrams sent during the quarter numbered 117,081, and produced £10,115. Toll communications, which are also included in telegraph revenue, amounted to £85,033, against £70,773 for the corresponding quarter last year. Telephone exchange and toll communications total £218,873 for the quarter and are both included in the telegraphic revenue.
