OUR MOUNTAINS.

Beauteous "Westland; that wondrous part Of mountain, lake and hill Where Nature with most lavish art Clothed with rarest skill. The mountains lifted to the,.skv, Silver tipped and cold; Wakened as the sun drew nigh ; And'all became as gold. The stately scene all golden fired Before the .sun’s great splendour: ATnjestically retired, Their borrowed glow, surrender On the mountain, the day near spent. Comes evening, hearing light Of many Hauling colours blent, Couriers of coining night. And then the brilliant lightning change As if with a fairy finger; Spread living tints along the range; With beauteous hues they linger. / -v A A charming sight, that heavenly beam. Which lit up vale and hill; ' v Inspired our minds to think and dream Of Heaven, more glorious still. The hills still covered in a flame, Sparkling from height to height Soon lost themselves, when shadows came, Before the onward night. Glorious was the charming sight. Too soon to pass away; Thus in life, departs the light In shadows—ends the day. —AV.E.P.
