The Marine Court has opened an enquiry into the Dilkcra-AVyrallah lision.Captain Bracken, master of the AVyrallah, gave evidence that when the steamers were approaching the Dilkera’s lights suddenly changed. Ho .concluded that she had been caught by the tide, which was rushing out of the Rip. He tried to avoid tho collision which followed. He gave no orders to launch the lifeboats because he saw it was useless. He jumped when the vessels were sftven feet apart, and was dragged on to the Dilkcra. He thought everybody had escaped, but on mustering found six missing. The man on the bridge of tho Dilkcra said he could not stop the ship and not knowing the amount of damage, was afraid, on account of the tide, that ' f be attempted to turn she would sink. He heard cries as the AVyrallah sank, but the Dilkera’s captain could do nothing for them. Ho said it was better that one ship should he lost than two. [The steamers Dilkcra and Wyndkih collided off Port Phillip Heads late on the night of April Bth. The AVyrallah foundered in three-quar-ters of an hour, and six men were drowned.] SHOW AAVARDS. Ho ran to the Diekera’s bridge and asked the officer: “Are you not going to lower the boats!- Some men are calling us.’ The officer said: “No; if wo don’t look out we will be aground ourselves directly.”
